Mission Statement

The Sydney College of Divinity is a community of learners, teachers and researchers created through a federation of Christian theological education providers for the accreditation of awards in Higher Education. The College is committed to the study of theology, ministry and the arts, and is both diverse in its theological traditions and inclusive in its functioning. The Member Institutions commit themselves to sustain a teaching and research program of excellence.

The College aims to:

  • provide high quality, accredited education in theology and the humanities from undergraduate to graduate levels
  • prepare leaders and ministers, both ordained and non-ordained, who are well qualified to build the church of the future
  • encourage research and scholarship in theology and the humanities which is ecumenically sensitive and relevant to issues of culture and society in Australia and Oceania
  • contribute to the public discussion of issues of faith and culture in Australia and beyond
  • provide our teachers with the opportunity to develop their professional skills, supported by a community of Christian scholars
  • prepare the next generation of Christian teachers and scholars

The Member Institutions of the College commit themselves to sustain a teaching program of excellence in Higher Education, integrating best practice in adult teaching and learning with theological enterprise. They, in their turn, seek to foster self-directed and lifelong learning among their students. This extends to actively encouraging graduates to engage in further study and research, both within the College and in other institutions of higher learning.
